The role of financial centres in promoting strong, sustainable and balanced growth

Date: 25 Mar 2019

On behalf of the Ministry of Finance of The Luxembourg Government, the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Network of Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S), we are delighted to invite you to our breakfast meeting on the role of financial centres in promoting strong, sustainable and balanced growth. This event will be held on Friday 12 April from 08:30 am till 10:00 am, during the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings. The breakfast meeting will be at the Executive Directors Lounge on the 13th floor of The World Bank Group building (1818 H St NW, Washington, DC 20433).

The event will open with a keynote by Mr Pierre Gramegna, Minister of Finance of Luxembourg, with a brief analysis of Luxembourg’s efforts (and challenges) to unlock and align private and public financial flows towards the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement objectives.

The session will then examine the ways in which financial centres, as custodians of trillions of dollars, can collaborate to accelerate a just transition to a green economy. This will be followed by the sharing of experiences among financial centres and market actors on the challenges and best practices to promote sustainable finance and accelerate a transition to a low-carbon economy.

To join this event you must be registered to attend the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings. Registration information can be found here. Seating is limited.

We would be pleased if you could join for what we hope will be a thought-provoking conversation, by replying to sarah.zaidi@un.org. The draft agenda is below.
